Break-in At The Mra Headquarters In Lagos

At the weekend, unidentified attackers broke into the Media Rights Agenda (MRA) offices in Lagos and stole office supplies including window systems, computers, and other items worth millions of naira.

Obioma Okonkwo, the head of MRA’s legal department, made a statement yesterday in which she referred to the occurrence as a horrifying and devastating assault on the organization.

Since just laptop computers and other digital tools were stolen, the organization was still attempting to ascertain if the event was merely a heist or a more serious attempt to sabotage MRA’s activities or access its records and information.

The intruders “apparently gained access into the office, which is a detached two-storey building surrounded by a high perimeter brick fence, by climbing over a side fence into the compound, then cut through the ceiling and smashing roofing material to enter one of the offices on the upper floor,” according to Okonkwo, who also stated that “the incident took place sometime between the evening of Saturday, January 21 and the following morning.”

She claimed: “Robbers clearly couldn’t break the ground floor main entrance to the property, which is a reinforced security door, or any of the windows in the building, which are all equipped with protectors made of iron rods, which is why they had to enter via the roof and ceiling.”
