Police detain the suspect in the fatal shooting of a Lagos lawyer.

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) assigned to the Ajah Division has been detained by police in Lagos State on suspicion of murdering a female attorney on Christmas Day.

 

The arrest was confirmed on Monday by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesperson for the police.

 

He said that two more police officers who were with the ASP were also detained and questioned.

 

“That was an unfortunate and preventable occurrence. Two other ASPs who were accompanying the shooter have subsequently been arrested.

 

They must be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for further inquiries, according to Hundeyin.

 

The spokesperson said that Mr. Abiodun Alabi, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, has spoken with the deceased’s family and the Nigerian Bar Association over the heinous crime.

 

Mr. Alabi has made clear guarantees that justice would definitely triumph, according to Hundeyin.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) previously learned that the event caused pandemonium in the neighborhood as the alleged police officer and his colleagues promptly departed the site.

 

NAN learned that Ajah police division personnel managed to capture and hold the officer.

 

NAN discovered that the deceased, her sister, and four kids were driving home in their vehicle after a Christmas trip at 11:00 a.m. when the police officer tried to stop them.

 

According to a source, the lady was attempting to perform a U-turn beneath the Ajah Bridge when the ASP reportedly fired at her car, striking her in the chest.

 

She was taken to a hospital where it was determined that she had passed away, the person added.
