Lagos is a national asset, according to Governor Sanwo-N1.69 Olu’s trillion 2023 budget.
|The governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, gave the state house of assembly the 2023 budget.
On Thursday, October 27, he delivered a N1.69 trillion budget to the house of assembly.
According to the governor’s breakdown, recurrent expenses will consume N759 billion while capital expenditures will consume N932 billion, or 55% of the overall budget.
The governor reiterated his call for a new revenue-sharing model when speaking to the parliamentarians. Lagos should have special status, the governor demanded, calling it a “national asset.”
“Unrestricted migration from other parts of the country continues to put further strain on Lagos’ social services. For this reason, I have always argued—and will continue to argue—that Lagos needs to be given an unique designation as a national treasure.
Lagos is too large for our nation to tolerate its failure. Lagos is too strategically important for us to fail to recognize that its well-being and that of this nation as a whole go beyond any one region, section, or aspect of the nation.
Lagos deserves all the assistance it can get at the national level since it is a microcosm of the entire nation, he said.
