Churches, Mosques, And Event Venues In Edo Will Close
|Churches, mosques, event venues, nightclubs, lounges, and other public areas that do not adhere to the state’s noise pollution regulations will be shut by March 31.
A joint task force made up of representatives from the Ministries of Environment and Sustainability and Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development (MPPHURD) in Edo State has been serving notices to the facilities, informing them that they have been given a 90-day grace period to install soundproof materials in their buildings.
The action follows a stakeholder meeting between government representatives and owners of businesses that need noise control, which took place on October 31, 2022.
Owners of hotels, lounges, clubs, bars, churches, mosques, and event venues, among others, have received notices headed “Soundproofing Requirement for Your Property” that have been sent to stakeholders around Benin City.
Isoken Omo, the commissioner for physical planning, housing, urban and regional development, said in a statement that the notifications expressed the consensus reached by stakeholders on the deadline for compliance, which is March 31, 2023.
