Dalot explains why we lost to Aston Villa 3-1.

Diogo Dalot, a defender for Manchester United, has acknowledged that his team’s 3-1 Premier League loss to Aston Villa on Sunday was a significant lesson.

Aston Villa defeated Manchester United at home for the first time since 1995.

Dalot thinks Erik ten Hag’s squad has learned an important lesson about the need of “starting considerably faster” in games since Man United conceded 2-0 after only 11 minutes and enabled the home club to score early in the second half.

“Clearly, it’s a step back, and we have to look at it as a lesson,” he wrote.

We have another chance on Thursday [against Villa in the Carabao Cup], and this is a tournament we want to win, so [we must] attempt to do it better in the next games.

“I’m dissatisfied. We anticipated that today’s game would be challenging, but the first 10 minutes and the first five minutes of the second half didn’t go as planned.

“I believe that was pivotal for them. And we may use that as a lesson for the next games. We must begin much more rapidly and sharply, and we are dissatisfied since we intended to succeed.

We understood they intended to draw the audience with them, which is why I advised we had to start with enthusiasm.
