Visits The Stray Bullet Victim In FMC And Advises Restraint

Gabriel Michael, who was wounded by a stray gunshot during the Naira shortage demonstration in Abeokuta on Tuesday, was visited by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun yesterday.

After learning that the victim, who was being treated at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, had recovered, the governor spoke with reporters and pleaded with the locals not to use violence as a consequence of a financial crisis, saying that vandalism would not put an end to the issue.

Civil disturbance, according to Abiodun, would make the problem worse even if the government was trying to handle it. He also called with the populace to be quiet.

He pleaded with everyone in Ogun State, saying that your governor was doing all he could at the moment. The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and I have talked. I have also had meetings with kings and bankers.

Violence is not an option for us. The issue won’t be resolved by robbing banks and damaging Automated Teller Machine (ATM) terminals. The bank personnel won’t open their doors to you because of the terror you will instill in them. Therefore, even when the banks have plenty of cash, we will still be disappointed if they are closed. Please refrain from blaming the bankers.

The governor pointed out that every effort was being made to remedy the situation but blamed the crisis on the pace at which CBN is exchanging new notes for old notes.

Please refrain from using violence of any kind. We in Ogun State are not like this. We are a people that value peace. We are Nigeria’s industrial hub and the Gateway State. We do not have a violent nature. We’ll move beyond it, I promise. Let’s maintain peace and order, the governor begged.
