The Healing Process Must Start Now; The Time For Politics Is Over, Says Tinubu

The newly elected president, Bola Tinubu, asserts that now that the general election is over, Nigerians must promote the healing process in order to bring the nation together.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Tinubu asked all Nigerians to put aside their differences and support nation-building.

He praised all the elected governors and states legislators while asking them to give the “better living that we promised throughout the campaigns”.

“I congratulate all the elected governors and assembly members for deserving the mandate of the people. The elections for the State Houses of Assembly and Governorship are now complete.

The 2023 election cycle has come to a fitting finish with the March 18 state legislature elections and the 28 state gubernatorial elections, according to the president-elect.

“More growth and a better quality of life for the general public would result from the consolidation of democratic government at the subnational level. More of our people will profit from the benefits of democracy and sound governance as we firmly establish and solidify the accomplishments of our democratic endeavor throughout the whole nation.

The elections are finished, in fact. The people have cast their ballots to choose the governors and state representatives who will represent them for the next four years. This is the moment for government and leadership.

“As the elected, the only way to uphold the faith and trust of the people, as well as the mandate placed in our hands, is to dedicate ourselves to serving the people. To improve the lives of the majority, we must all labor hard and truly. As elected officials, our only responsibility is to carry the burdens of the people and make sure they live the better lives we promised them during the campaigns.

“We must act quickly to bring together the people, both those who supported us and those who did not. By accepting the adversaries and their backers, we must promote the healing process. The time for politics, as I have said before, is over. This is the moment for nation-building, a mission larger than one person or one segment of society. Every hand from wherever it may be needed is needed on deck.

“As your President, I’m willing to collaborate with you all. When we unite in a common goal and fresh optimism for the advancement of our wonderful nation and our dearly loved people, I will be a trustworthy partner you can depend on.

“I’M HURT BY ETHNIC SLURRS,”

TheCable has covered episodes of electoral violence and voter intimidation before and during the elections in states including Lagos, Delta, Kano, and Abia.

Also prevalent on social media were racial epithets and ethnic profiling.

On the problems, Tinubu referred to “the alleged isolated breaches” as being “unacceptable and contrary to the democratic culture.”

“But, I’m troubled by the reported isolated breaches that occurred in various states during the election and its aftermath. I vehemently reject it. Also, the story of an arson following the release of the gubernatorial results in one state did not accurately reflect who we are in reality: people who value peace, according to the statement.
