In Cross River State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of targeting PDP members who reside in Akpabuyo Council.
The claim was made yesterday in a statement that PDP leaders from Akpabuyo and the Southern Senatorial District read to newsmen in Calabar.
Author and former governor Javis Archibong, deputy governor candidate Emana Duke, state party campaign chairman Effiom Cobham, and the representative of the Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency were the PDP officials that spoke to the media.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Archibong said that issues began soon after a meeting of APC leaders was conducted on February 5 in Ikot Oyom in Akpabuyo.
“We are motivated to conduct this press conference to draw attention to the devastation and ongoing assaults on PDP members and sympathizers in Akpabuyo Council since February 5,” he said.
“The current barbaric attack on our members in the area started soon after Joseph Bassey, the APC candidate for the Calabar South/Akpabuyo and Bakassi Federal Constituency, and a man named Cyril Anthony led a group of miscreants to deface PDP candidate billboards inside the private home of Mr. Amanso Okon Etim, the party’s chapter youth leader in Atimbo, without any provocation. They continued by breaking into his home and destroying his personal belongings.
Additionally, they claimed that Francis Ekeng, the party’s state organizing secretary, and other people were attacked.
