Obi Votes, Criticizing The Low Anambra Voting Participation

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, lamented the poor voter turnout in Anambra for the elections for the state houses of assembly and governor on Saturday.

After casting his ballot at Amatutu Polling Unit 019, Agulu in the state’s Anaocha Local Government Area, Obi decried the status of affairs.

He said that loss of faith in the voting system was the cause of the indifference.

“The first thing you’ll notice is that voter participation is far lower than it was the previous time.

“The electorate believes that it is pointless to exert effort if one’s vote is not counted. We are in a terrible circumstance right now.

Since they know their ballots won’t be counted, only around 25 million of the 93 million eligible voters in the nation turn up to vote. This time, I know it will be significantly less,” he remarked.

Nonetheless, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party urged Nigerians to make an effort to vote for their preferred candidates.

He denounced vote buying and selling and said that transactional politics could not help a nation like Nigeria that was facing both political and economic difficulties.

According to Obi, in the states where it fielded candidates, the Labour Party offered credible and electable candidates.
