NNPP: INEC is being dishonest and threatening the stability of the country

In relation to the delay of the gubernatorial and state assembly elections in 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been accused of lying by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Remember that the Court of Appeal’s decision allowing the Commission authority to modify the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System led to INEC moving the elections from March 11 to March 18? (BVAS).

Agbo Major, the national publicity secretary for the NNPP, said that INEC should have planned ahead and purchased more BVAS.

Major said that the party has no objections to the elections being moved because of the significance of the Commission’s justifications.

Nonetheless, he said that the election umpire was lying and that the Commission was attempting to undermine the stability of the country.

“We have no issues with it,” he added, adding that the INEC’s justifications for needing more time to modify the BVAS were valid.

“You know that the order was just recently revoked, and we see reasons why they won’t be able to reconfigure BVAS that will go to over 176,000 voting places and have them deployed around the nation in three days.

“But the issue we never stop asking is why INEC, with the vast resources at their disposal, was unable to acquire enough so that, in the case of a standoff like this, they would have a set of backup BVAS to deploy.

“Keep in mind that they have been informing us that they have made arrangements so that a backup BVAS machine would be deployed in the event that anybody fails. They are where? It implies that there should be two BVAS—one operating and the other ready to go—for each polling station. Where is the second set if that is the case?

“I believe that these guys are simply being dishonest. That is how I see what INEC is doing. They are interfering with the stability of our country, whether anybody likes it or not, and that is unacceptable.
