In The Ojuelegba Truck Tragedy, Nine People Perish While One Is Saved.

One adult female was saved from the Ojuelegba truck disaster on January 29, 2023, but four adult men, three adult females, one boy kid, and one girl child perished.

The 20-foot container-conveying truck crashed against a commercial bus.

Investigations, according to Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), showed that the bus was picking up people when the truck lost control and plunged over the side of the bridge.

“A single adult lady was extracted alive and sent to the trauma center after being suspended from the container load with the help of the Agency’s forklift and having the top of the bus cut off.

“The total number of deaths has been revised to nine, including four adult men, three adult females, one boy kid, and one girl child. Only one adult female was saved.

On the ground are crews from Onipan and Cappa as well as the heavy-duty Goliath of the Agency. The crisis has since been resolved thanks to the efforts of the Agency’s ambulance, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and Nigeria Police.

The Nigeria Police will look into the dismantling of the bridge’s barricades that were meant to stop vehicles from rising further.
