Apparently, Hoodlums Disrupt The Pvc Collection In Edo.

Hoodlums are said to have interrupted the collecting of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in various areas of Edo State’s Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.

According to the Daily Trust, the incident allegedly took place on January 6 and 7, at the following places: Ward 01 at Iwogban/Uteh; Ward 05 at St. Saviour’s School; Ward 07 at Ugbekun; Ward 06 at Maria Goretti College; RA 09 at Obanyator with Army Children’s School; and Ogheghe health clinics.

When Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials decided to distribute PVC at the ward level, the thugs attacked the collecting centers early in the morning.

Timidi Wariowe, the head of voter education at the Edo INEC headquarters, verified the occurrence and said that the disturbance took place in five local government wards.

“The INEC Edo State has received complaints of disorderly situations between yesterday, Friday, and Saturday,” Wariowe said. “These episodes escalated into the disruption of the collecting of PVC and a threat to personnel and materials in the five wards.

“In the interim, INEC Edo State has decided to relocate the Ward 1 and Ward 9 collection centers to the INEC Local Government Office in Ikpoba Okha, while the staff previously withdrew from Ward 5, Ward 6, and Ward 7 are making their way back to their collection centers to continue the activity, on the assurances that the Electoral Officer has received from the DSS of their presence there.”

In order to guarantee that all voters may get their PVCs and participate in the election, Wariowe also urged individuals, particularly community leaders, to safeguard the safety of INEC employees and equipment stationed in their respective localities. He continued by saying that INEC has also alerted the state police command of the circumstance.

In addition, the Head of Voter Education said that a total of 26,095 PVCs had been gathered between January and July in preparation for the general elections in 2023.
