19-Year-Old Woman Leads Armed Gang To Steal N2.8 Million From Her Employer

Cynthia Ikade, a 19-year-old woman, was charged in a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for plotting with a group to steal Esther Okanlawon of N2.8 million and other valuables.

On January 12, 2023, Ikade and her conspirators Pius Sunday, 28, and Loveth Uloko, 20, were charged.

Ikade, a maid who worked for Okanlawon at her home in the state’s Mushin district, is said to have abruptly declared that she was uninterested in the position.

Her employer attempted to telephone the agency through whom she was engaged to come pick her up, but the agent was unreachable.

The adolescent then made a request for Sunday, whom she identified as her brother, to pick her up from the residence.

After that, Sunday advised the lady to phone him whenever she wanted a different maid to take Ikade’s place, claiming that he was also an agent, as they were leaving the home with Ikade.

According to reports, Okanlawon phoned him three months later to send another maid, and he responded by sending Uloko.

On October 10, 2022, Sunday, Ikade, and Henry—one of whom is still at large—allegedly broke into the woman’s home and plundered the family with the assistance of Uloko, who is accused of opening the gate and the rear door for them.

Three charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, and illegal conversion were brought against the accused during their arraignment.

The charges alleged, in part, that on or before October 10, 2022, at Isiaka Nade Street, Mushin, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, “you, Pius Sunday, Ikade Cynthia, Loveth Uloko, and one other at large, while in the service of the victim, as an agent to housemaids, did intentionally arm yourselves with a locally-made gun and a knife and rob Mrs. Esther Okanlawon and her two visitors of the sum of

The defendants’ plea was not taken.

Godwin Oriabure, the prosecutor, argued for the three defendants to be held in custody for 30 days until the Directorate of Public Prosecutions obtains legal counsel.

A. O. Salawu, the Chief Magistrate presiding, postponed the case to February 9, 2023, in order to seek legal counsel.
