Twitter Doesn’t Win Elections, Moghalu Tells Youths

According to Kingsley Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, elections in Nigeria are neither fought or won on social media.

An effective structural presence and mobilization techniques at the micro levels at polling units, according to Moghalu, who is also the former African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, are what win elections.

In his own words: “Although social media is undoubtedly a factor, particularly for young people, Nigerian elections are not fought and won on Twitter. However, in general, effective structural presence and mobilization at the micro levels at voting booths, particularly in rural regions, win elections.

“Poverty and illiteracy continue to play major roles in Nigerian politics. People who are susceptible to these variables still outnumber those who are not.

“The only thing that can truly change things is if young people show up in large numbers and if they lean heavily in one side or another.
