Letting your parents pick who you marry is the worst mistake you can make, says Eriata Ese.

Eriata Ese, a well-known Nollywood actress, disapproves of the notion of parents choosing on a person’s life partner.

Eriata claimed that the idea is biased since it only takes the parents’ interests into account and ignores the desires of the son or daughter or the characteristics of the person to settle with.

She went on to stress the regrets that might result from choosing a spouse whose personality does not mesh with the one they married.

Eriata Ese published the following on her official Snapchat page:

“Letting your parents choose who you should end up with is the worst error you can make in life. I sometimes wonder whether parents are aware that they are using their clock to set our time since they always assume they know everything because they feel like they’ve been there.

They just care about what will benefit the family and what will be beneficial for you.

However, they fail to consider if what they want for you is what you desire for yourself.

When you question “why,” I often hear responses like “I’m not into my marriage.” Things like “my parents desired it” are common. Do you understand the remorse that results from choosing to spend time with someone you don’t want to?

They then reassure you by saying “don’t worry, love will be there when you get there” shey na from Arik or Emirates airline.

It’s 2021! Sincerely, that crap has to end.

The part that irritates me the most is when they provide precise instructions on which tribes to leave at home, such as “e no get tribe way no Dey do wicked deeds.”

What does someone’s tribe have to do with their personality? When will our parents realize that our tribe does not choose nice people? Even a neighbor from your own community might treat you badly, so why the tribalism?
