Election Law Violation Will Land You In Prison – Nysc

Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who want to vote in the general elections of 2023 have been advised to be impartial and apolitical.

Speaking to corps members on Saturday at the Mbaukwu/Umuawulu Permanent Orientation camp in the Anambra state’s Awka South Local Government Area, Christy Uba, the acting director general of NYSC, revealed this.

Uba attended the cultural fiesta for the 2023 Batch C participants that took place in Anambra.

The acting DG states that participation in election duties by corps members is totally optional, and those who do so are expected to refrain from any unethical actions that might compromise the integrity of the election or the program’s reputation.

She said that the NYSC would not be reluctant to turn over any corps member who has been confirmed to have engaged in electoral misconduct to the state so they may be brought before the law.

Please be aware that this is an ad hoc job and that you must be impartial and apolitical if you participate in the 2023 election.

“Don’t act inappropriately; as corps members, you are not politicians; in the future, you may become such, but for the time being, you are corps members.

“If you break any electoral laws, you will go to jail; NYSC cannot hide you; if they come for you and claim that you broke the law, we will turn you over to the state.”

“You have a choice whether or not to engage in the election, but if you do, make sure you participate in all the training and sensitization so that you can understand your job and limitations,” she said.
