Super Eagles star Awoniyi says Nottingham will fight to avoid relegation.

Nottingham Forest will draw motivation from their away victory against Southampton on Wednesday night, according to Taiwo Awoniyi, as they attempt to climb the Premier League standings.

At the St Mary’s Stadium, Steve Cooper’s team beat Southampton 1-0 thanks to a goal from Awoniyi in the first period.

Following the victory on the south coast, the Reds were able to escape the relegation zone.

After the World Cup break, games are coming thick and fast, and Awoniyi thinks the victory will spur the squad on as they battle for safety.

Awoniyi said to the club’s official website, “We’ve been waiting for this for a long time. The manager was telling us that we needed to improve our away record and we’re glad to get the three points.

“You have to work hard in every Premier League game, and if you keep going and battling, you’ll see the consequences.

“Now that we’re out of the bottom three, we can’t stop developing into the squad we want to be. We must persist, maintain our faith, and battle for one another.

On Saturday, Nottingham Forest will play Blackpool in the next Emirates FA Cup match.
