Saudi Arabia loosens restrictions on cohabitation

The harsh Saudi Arabian regulation prohibiting unmarried couples from cohabitating has been relaxed for the former Manchester United attacker and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.

The 37-year-old left Manchester United after having his contract torn up and joined Al-Nassr on a two-and-a-half-year deal for £173 million each season.

With his candid chat with SunSport writer and TalkTV host Piers Morgan, Ronaldo enraged Old Trafford officials.

In the conversation, Ronaldo said he did not respect manager Erik ten Hag and accused Manchester United of treachery.

At the 25,000-person Mrsool Park, Ronaldo was introduced as an Al-Nassr player earlier this week. Georgina, his girlfriend of over six years, and his family were in attendance.

However, as they are not legally married, the couple’s cohabitation would theoretically be against Saudi law.

According to Sport, who also claims that Ronaldo, a father of five, and mother of two Georgina, will receive a pass since he is one of the most marketable players in the world.

The story continues by quoting two Saudi attorneys who forecast that authorities won’t get involved.

“Even though the rules still forbid cohabitation without a marriage contract, the authorities have started to turn a blind eye and do not prosecute anybody,” one person said.

Of course, when there is a problem or a crime, these laws are applied.

The law still forbids cohabitation outside of marriage, but the Saudi Arabian authorities currently do not intervene in this subject [in the case of foreigners].
