Porro is a target of Spurs, but the club is unwilling to meet the £40 million release clause.

Pedro Porro, the right wingback for Sporting Lisbon, is apparently no longer a target for Tottenham after the club refused to meet the entire £40 million release clause.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty’s performance at right wing back has long been a source of worry for Tottenham.

Djed Spence, a summer acquisition who was described as a “club signing” by manager Antonio Conte, is also yet to make his debut in a game.

Porro would apparently be a good fit for Tottenham to fill the vacant post.

According to Sky Sports, the club is hesitant to satisfy Sporting Lisbon’s demand for payment of his £40 million release clause.

In a statement last month, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim referred to Porro as “one of the finest full backs in Europe” and acknowledged that if a club exercised the release option, Sporting would be unable to stop the Spaniard from departing.

The full back was formerly with Manchester City, however he did not play for the league winners.

Sporting first signed Porro to a two-year loan agreement before exercising a £7.2 million purchase option.

Porro’s contract has a £40 million release clause, according to Sporting.

Porro has made 93 appearances for the team, with 19 assists and 11 goals.

The fullback, who has one Spain cap, faced Spurs during this season’s Champions League group round.
