Barcelona Is In Further Trouble As Uefa Begins An Investigation Into A Case Of Corruption.

The Negreira referee payments controversy is being looked examined by UEFA, which might cause Barcelona extra problems.

Between 2001 and 2018, the LaLiga giants sent José Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former vice-president of the Referee’s Committee, compensation totaling €7.3 million.

Corruption has been formally filed against Barca.

But it has now been made clear that UEFA will take up the dispute.

The governing body of European football said in a statement:

“UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have been appointed today to undertake an investigation over a possible infringement of UEFA’s legal framework by FC Barcelona in connection with the so-called “Caso Negreira,” in line with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Rules.

“More information on this subject will be made available as soon as possible.”

Barcelona insists that despite the payments paid to Negreira, they have not broken any laws or gained the favor of the referees.
