All You Need To Know About Israel’s Iron Dome

In today’s era of warfare, technology plays a crucial role, and one remarkable example is the Iron Dome. Created by Israel, it was jointly developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries.

Purpose and Functionality
The primary objective of the Iron Dome is clear: to protect Israeli-populated areas from incoming threats. With a range spanning from 4 to 70 kilometers (2–43 miles), the system is designed to intercept projectiles before they reach their intended targets. This capability is particularly crucial in regions where rocket attacks are a constant threat.

The Iron Dome operates seamlessly in various weather conditions, making it a reliable defense mechanism even in adverse situations.
Its versatility and effectiveness have been demonstrated repeatedly, providing peace of mind to Israeli citizens and military personnel alike.

Operational History
The Iron Dome was declared operational and initially deployed near Beersheba on March 27, 2011.
On April 7, 2011, it achieved its first successful interception by neutralizing a rocket launched from Gaza.
During the 2012 Gaza-Israel conflict, Iron Dome demonstrated its capability by intercepting 90% of rockets that would have otherwise hit populated areas.

“The Iron Dome also intercepted more than 200 drones and missiles fired from Iran last night, on April 13th.”

Due to its accuracy, several countries have expressed interest in the Iron Dome system, including:

(1) Romania and Cyprus
(2) Azerbaijan
(3) South Korea
(4) India
(5) Singapore

Additionally, the United States Army received two Iron Dome batteries in 2020. These systems enhance their capabilities for defense against aerial threats. Furthermore, during the ongoing conflict with Russia, Ukraine has also considered using the Iron Dome system to bolster its defenses.
