Yakubu Informs The Labour Party’s Legal Staff That We Have Nothing To Conceal.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced that the electoral umpire has nothing to hide with respect to granting political parties access to the materials and papers utilized in the February 25 presidential election.

This was said by Yakubu on Monday when he met with Livy Uzoukwu and the legal team for the Labour Party, LP at the commission’s Abuja offices.

Over 60 attorneys make up the Legal Team, which was at INEC to discuss how to secure crucial papers that would aid the LP in pursuing its case at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).

During the meeting, Yakubu gave the attorneys his word that the Commission would provide them all the paperwork they needed to pursue their case.

We got a letter from Uzoukwu (SAN) on behalf of the Labour Party,” he stated. We received notice that the team would be visiting to inspect the materials, but the letter also asked us to contact the Resident Electoral Commissioners in each of the 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, to ask them to make the necessary records and information available to the team so they could proceed with their petition.

“A meeting with all of the resident electoral commissioners has been arranged for today at 3 p.m. We will examine a number of topics during the meeting, including the problem of delivering Certified True Copies (CTCs) to all plaintiffs, not only the Labour Party.

I want to reassure you that the Commission will make any document that has been requested public and will not withhold any information from anybody.
