To dispose of more than 100,000 unclaimed passports, NIS forms a task group.

With the goal of accelerating the nationwide collection of more than 100,000 produced but unclaimed passports, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has increased strategic actions on the effectiveness of passport administration by deploying Assistant Comptroller Generals (ACGs) to some zonal offices with a higher number of unclaimed passports.

Isah Jere Idris, the Comptroller General of Immigration, said that Lagos topped the list of uncollected passports with nearly 40,000 manufactured passports still waiting to be picked up by applicants.

He said that Port Harcourt and Benin Zonal Offices of Immigration were additional zones with greater quantities of uncollected passports where the ACGs were sent to speed up the collecting of the manufactured passports. This was said in a statement released yesterday by Anthony N. Akuneme, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration and NIS Public Relations Officer.
