Pos Employees Were Detained By The Efcc For Selling Naira Notes In Ondo.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s agents were seen in several sections of Ondo State’s Akure South and Akure North Local Government Areas arresting Point of Sales operators who were reportedly selling naira at exorbitant rates.

Several operators are said to have been detained on Friday and Saturday by anti-graft commission officers.

The offenders were accused of obtaining money from banks in cash and charging their clients extortionate fees for the notes (N500 and N1000).

According to a witness, men wearing red jackets with the EFCC’s logo on them invaded Akure’s well-known Oja-Oba market and detained many PoS agents along the way.

“They have detained several PoS attendants in the Oja Oba region; if they approach you, they will want to know where you get your money from, how much you charge your clients, and where you take them to get the money.

“Other PoS employees who had received the information in advance left their booths and sprinted away.”

According to a different source, the EFCC agents were in the area with their bus at Oba Ile in Akure North LGA where they arrested several of the PoS operators.

“A PoS agent was responding to clients when a lady walked off of the bus and inquired about the fee per thousand naira,” she added.

“I observed the lady gesture to several guys at the moment the deal was done, and that is how I knew they were EFCC officials, and they snatched him away,” the witness said.

Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for the EFCC, could not be reached for comment on the situation since his phone line was down at the time this story was filed.
