Kaduna court keeps two men detained

Two men, Abdullahi Sadiq, 30, and Sani Nasiru, 28, were remanded to the Kaduna Correctional Facility on Wednesday due to allegations that they were in possession of guns without authorization.

The accused were ordered to remain in detention for guidance from the state’s director of public prosecutions, according to presiding chief magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel.

Investigating Insp Sunday Baba had previously testified in court that police officers had detained the pair on December 27, 2022, in the Rigasa neighborhood of Kaduna with one locally-made automatic pistol, one Dane gun, eight cutlasses, knives, and daggers.

He said they admitted to traveling to Zaria, also in Kaduna State, to meet their gang boss Garba in preparation for a heist.

He stated that Garba was still at large.

Because the Kaduna State Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act 2004 did not provide the court the authority to hear the case, it did not accept the accused’s plea.

In order to wait for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ recommendation, Chief Magistrate Emmanuel postponed the case until February 6.
