In Nigeria, Obasanjo, Wike, And Fayemi Support Democratic Culture.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and Kayode Fayemi, a former governor of Ekiti State, have all emphasized the need of establishing democratic institutions and culture to support the nation’s growth and security.

Speaking yesterday at the Port Harcourt International Conference on the topic of “Deepening Democratic Culture and Institutions for Sustainable Development and Security in Nigeria,” Obasanjo noted that while Nigeria cannot deny that it does not practice true democracy, it has represented and demonstrated its principles since 1999.

In his talk titled “Respecting the Principles of Democracy,” Obasanjo, the conference’s keynote speaker, urged Nigerians to transition from democracy to democratization, saying that continuing to engage in liberal democracy-centered activities and discussions was insufficient.

In the interest of the country as a whole, he characterized democratization as a political and social process, adding that it inspires confidence in laying a solid and long-lasting basis for the future. “Democracy is achievable in Nigeria, and we have the potential to create a culture that is conducive to democratization,” he said.

“We must recognize, however, that this does not imply that all of our problems will be solved overnight. Instead, it supports autonomous organizations. We shall be able to handle the system’s conflicts and problems with more effectiveness and efficiency thanks to the democratic system. He said that democracy would become entrenched with corruption if the leaders did not turn back, warning that the consequences would be severe.
