Berger expresses sympathy to flood victims

Bags of rice and other food supplies have been donated by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to three operating zones, including Bayelsa, Port Harcourt, and the Abuja-Kano Road, to lessen the impact of the tragic flood catastrophe.

‘The management of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc wishes to commiserate with the government and good people of Bayelsa State over the flood incident that has enormously disrupted lives and economic activities in parts of the state,’ said Chief Sam Ngbor, Regional Project Coordinator for Julius Berger’s mission in Bayelsa. Unquestionably, this occurrence has caused many hardships and intolerable situations in recent years.

“As part of our efforts to assist the government and good people of Bayelsa state in this hard time, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc., today provides 100 bags of rice to the flood victims to help alleviate the impact of the tragic natural calamity,” Chief Ngbor said.

Iselema Gbaranbiri, the commissioner for environment for Bayelsa State, commended Julius Berger in a statement after receiving the contribution “for efforts in coping with the consequences of the destructive floods, which he stated was unprecedented and hurting Ijaw land deep into our villages.”

Mr. Mac-Ake Prince, a member of the Bayelsa State Flood Management Committee, and Mr. Princewill Azaru, the commissioner’s personal assistant, were present when the food contribution was given to the commissioner.

A senior member of the State’s Flood Management Task Force, Mr. Dabrabaye Briggs, accepted the donations on behalf of the Rivers Government in Port Harcourt, where he praised Julius Berger “for (the company’s) good gift and I hope that God blesses you always.”

Yusuf Ibrahim, team leader of the Julius Berger CSR Team, explained that Julius Berger’s tradition is to continuously reach out to its host communities through multifaceted emergency and palliative interventions or its planned long-term community empowerment and development schemes. This was done at the Abuja-Kano road project corridor.

We are still devoted partners in the Nigerian development effort, he said. Through the framework of our CSR, we would continue to do more to make sure that we contribute back to society.

This contribution is a part of the business’s determined strategy to improve the lives of both its host communities and households.
