Governor Ayade Is Defeated In The C/River Senate Race.

Sen. Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, the sitting senator for Cross River North, defeated Gov. Ben Ayade in the race for re-election to the Senate.

Agom-Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the National Assembly elections on Saturday, defeating Ayade, who served in the Senate from 2011 to 2015. Agom-Jarigbe received 56,595 votes to Agom-76,145. Jarigbe’s

About 3:05 a.m. on Monday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), via the returning officer Dr. Emmanuel Emanghe, declared the election’s outcome.

Agom-Jarigbe, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, was elected to the Senate in a bye-election in September 2021 as a result of the passing of Dr. Rose Okoh, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Parallel to this, Ayade, who is completing his second term as the state’s governor, wanted to succeed Agom-Jarigbe as the senator representing Cross River’s northern senatorial constituency.

After his declaration by the returning officer, the Senator could not, however, receive the Declaration Form.

When the Declaration Form was requested, Agom-Jarigbe was informed that the state’s election organization had accidentally sent it to Obudu.

The form was accidentally handed to Obudu, but the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Gabriel Yomere, suggested via phone that “he may be given with a temporary one while we wait for the real one to be presented.”

In the meanwhile, PDP candidate Godwin Offiono won the Ogoji/Yala Federal Constituency election.

Jude Ngaji, the area’s current representative and a member of the All Progressives Congress, lost to Offiono by 36,651 votes to 32,973 votes.

Dr. Wakasor Ofem delivered the Ogoja/Yala Federal constituency election results.
