Ali Is Suspended By Inec, And Kangiwa Is Named The New Sokoto Rec.

Dr. Nura Ali’s position as the resident electoral commissioner (REC) for Sokoto State has been suspended by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ali’s suspension was confirmed in a letter by INEC secretary Rose Orlaran-Anthony, who also revealed that Hajiya Aliyu Kangiwa would replace Ali as the next REC.

Ali was also told by INEC to avoid the commission’s Sokoto headquarters till further notice.

Orlaran-Anthony stated, “This is to tell you of the commission’s decision to order you (Dr. Nura Ali), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sokoto State, to immediately cease visiting the commission’s office in Sokoto state until further notice.

“The administrative secretary is asked to immediately assume full control of the INEC, Sokoto State office.”

While INEC withheld the reason for Ali’s suspension, reports indicated that it may not be unrelated to the recent claims of anomalies in the state’s just finished presidential election.
