Obaseki sets an N60 billion IGR goal for the fiscal year 2023.

Edo’s governor, Godwin Obaseki, set an internal generated revenue (IGR) goal of N60 billion for the state’s 2023 fiscal year on Friday.

Obaseki made this disclosure during the sixth annual Alaghodaro Investment Summit in Benin.

The summit is held every year to commemorate Obaseki’s first anniversary in office and to highlight the advancements made in the state’s transformation, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Edo’s Transformation: Partnerships, Resilience, Impact was the event’s topic.

He said that the growth will be driven by examining potential in forestry, industry, agriculture, and technology.

“Things haven’t been easy over the last six years, but we’ve tried in our own little way. As you can see, since we started in 2016, we have made an effort to raise internal revenue (IGR).

“With the exception of the COVID-19 year, we increased our IGR, and we anticipate ending next year with an IGR of more than N60 billion.

“We anticipate growth in the future, and this growth will be fueled by endowments we possess that other people do not.

The world is talking about net zero carbon, and we have something to offer the environment and the environmental economy, so people should visit us and enjoy what our ancestors created.

Manufacturing should be prioritized. The greatest onshore gas deposit in Nigeria is in Edo, with the majority of our gas lying offshore and in the marshes.

There is no reason we cannot produce enough energy from that energy source to draw in investors and promote industrialization.

“Agriculture is what we were raised around. There is basically no place on our 19 million square kilometers of land where we cannot grow anything.

Technology is the future for us since it is the topic of conversation worldwide and the current area of emphasis, according to Obaseki.

The governor emphasized the need for Nigeria to shift its economy from one of consumption to one of production.

He asserts that despite all of the difficulties the nation faces, Nigeria’s population of over 200 million people—which will increase to 450 million by 2050—would not cease to consume.

In his welcoming speech, Asue Ighodalo, the chairman of the board of Alaghodaro Limited, said that the summit will provide important players and the private sector the chance to decide how to handle the difficulties affecting the country’s economy.
