Nigerians Are Warned By Nafdac That Bogus Covid-19 Exists.

Nigerians have been alerted about fake gen Covid-19 Antigen quick test kits that have been seen in the wild by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The announcement was made in a NAFDAC public notice sent to journalists on Sunday in Abuja.

Health Canada informed NAFDAC about the fake COVID-19 fast antigen test kits made by BTNX Incorporated.

Health Canada, as cited by NAFDAC, said that a distributor by the name of Healthful Plus was selling the phony test kits online in 25-pack boxes without the necessary license.

According to NAFDAC, the fake kits’ packaging includes the BTNX Incorporated logo and is designed to seem like genuine BTNX Inc. items in terms of color and text.

It was noted that while the device’s identification is “COV-19C25,” there are a number of significant discrepancies, and that “Health Advance Inc.” rather than “BTNX Inc.” was listed as the manufacturer.

According to NAFDAC, Health Advance was listed as the “Official Canadian Distributor” of the fake goods on the box.

It was emphasized that the items made the claim that they were approved by government agencies including Health Canada.

“A genuine COVID-19 Antigen test kit aids in the discovery of specific viral proteins. Rapid antigen tests are intended to determine an individual’s infection status in a matter of minutes.

It is advised as a high-performing test for symptomatic people, high-risk groups, and healthcare or temporary professionals.

Health items that are counterfeit are copies of real products. These fake test kits have not been evaluated for their efficacy or safety.

The gadgets were fake, according to the original manufacturer BTNX Inc., NAFDAC said.

The agency recommended customers, pharmacists, wholesalers, and distributors to make sure their items come from reputable and trustworthy sources.

Additionally, it urged healthcare professionals to exercise greater caution across the supply chain to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, or use of COVID-19 fast antigen test kits that are not authentic.
