Nigerians Are “Much More Vulnerable” Now Than When You First Met Them, According To You.
President Muhammadu Buhari has once again come under fire from Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Sokoto, for the instability, corruption, and insecurity in Nigeria.
Kukah argues that rebuilding Nigeria would take bravery, honesty, truth, humility, trust, and a strong commitment rather than lying and blackmail.
In a Christmas letter with the heading,
In his article “Nigeria: Let Us Turn A New Page,” Kukah said that officials of the Buhari administration, whom he dubbed the President’s Friday men, took pleasure in verbally tormenting him for daring to criticize the vices of the government.
The famous preacher said that he took solace in the fact that none of his assailants had been able to disprove the essence of his claims.
I’ve heard the President’s Friday men accuse me of criticizing the President or not being a patriot, he continued, wearing the laurels they’ve earned through chasing shadows. Some even went so far as to say that I was opposed to Islam or the north.
“What matters is that none of my detractors have contested my facts. They may at least provide their interpretations of the facts if they accuse me of conveying unfavorable facts or realities.
Who would object, for instance, to the fact that our nation’s grandeur is no longer? Even inside the African continent, which looks to us for leadership, where is our voice valued today?
We would be negligent if we would not be concerned by our waning worldwide impact, unless we consider waiting in line behind people for handshakes throughout Europe and America to be accomplishments. Is it a success to be the world’s poorest country and one of the most violent nations? And what about our crushing domestic and foreign debts? And you don’t believe that our splendor has vanished?
Clearly, our country has split into two cities in nearly every aspect and according to all data. There are conflicts between the wealthy and the poor, men and women, different generations, political parties, socioeconomic classes, religion, and ethnicity, among other things.
“Almost every department at the center has given up. Our nation needs bravery, honesty, truth, humility, trust, and a strong resolve to be fixed and brought back. There is no replacement for the truth, according to Kukah.
Buhari is leaving Nigerians “far more vulnerable” than when he took office on May 29, 2015, he said, despite his many high promises.
