NDLEA detains a widow traveling to Saudi Arabia with cocaine at the Lagos airport

The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), in Ikeja, Lagos, was the scene of a drug arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of a Saudi-bound widow who had cocaine hidden in her shoes.

This was said in a statement made on Sunday in Abuja by Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA.

Babafemi said that Mrs. Kehinde Ajisegiri, a 56-year-old widow and mother of four, was detained for attempting to smuggle 400 kilos of cocaine into Makkah, Saudi Arabia, using her shoes as a disguise.

He said that the suspect, posing as a businesswoman engaged in the sale of clothing for both adults and children on Lagos Island, was apprehended on Sunday, November 13.

He said that this occurred when the suspect attempted to board a Qatar Airways aircraft that was bound for Saudi Arabia through Doha.

Two packets of cocaine totaling 400 grams were discovered after a close inspection of the sandals she was wearing, he said.

In a similar vein, Tayo Ayoade, a trader of tricycle components, was unsuccessful in his efforts to transport 1kg of Rohypnol and Tramadol 225mg to Istanbul, Turkey, through Cairo aboard an Egypt Airline aircraft.

According to Babafemi, the suspect was detained on November 13th, a Sunday, by NDLEA agents.

Idowu Ayoade was an intended passenger, and the man was at the airport to provide the pills to him, but he was caught, the man said.
