The Northern Elders Forum’s spokesman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has explained why he would back Peter Obi for president of the Labour Party (LP).

In an interview with Channels Television, Baba-Ahmed said he would back Obi’s bid for the presidency if he and his running partner were the strongest contenders in 2023.

I can only support Obi and my younger brother Datti if they are the most deserving candidates, the man said. You are aware that I am collaborating with the Northern Elders Forum on a project that provides an equal playing field for all the contenders.

He said that the lack of protection might prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission from deploying for elections or prevent individuals from moving about, which could result in eligible voters losing their right to vote.
