Ezeilo and Faborode are included on the BBC’s list of the 100 most inspirational women in the world.

The BBC’s 2022 list of 100 inspiring and influential women in the world includes two Nigerians, Joy Ezeilo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and Ibijoke Faborode, co-founder of ElectHER, a non-governmental organization addressing female under-representation in politics across Africa.

This was disclosed by BBC in a statement on Tuesday. The BBC’s list of 100 women began as an annual series in 2013 that included powerful women from all across the globe.

According to the BBC, the women were chosen from a variety of professional fields, including politics, athletics, and music. According to BBC, the women picked in 2021 chose those for 2022.

Chimamanda Adichie, a Nigerian author, proposed Ezeilo, a former United Nations (UN) special rapporteur on trafficking in persons, emeritus dean of law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Adichie praised Ezeilo for her work on behalf of women all over the continent and noted that she has “impacted many lives by giving free legal aid to the poor, especially to women and girls, whose human rights have been violated.”

In the past 25 years, Ezeilo, the founding director of the Women Aid Collective (WACOL), is credited with providing free legal counsel and shelter to 60,000 abused and vulnerable women in Nigeria.

Through ElectHER, Faborode is undermining the Nigerian women’s political movement. More than 2,000 women in politics have been involved in her organization’s efforts to overcome political representation disparities throughout Africa.
