At Valencia, Robert Lewandowski secures a thrilling victory for Barcelona
|Robert Lewandowski rescued Barcelona from a dismal stalemate against Valencia by snatching a late 1-0 La Liga victory at Estadio Mestalla.
After their highly publicized midweek Champions League elimination, La Blaurgana returned to domestic play, and the visitors hoped to force a comeback against Los Che.
The signals did not seem good for Xavi’s team, however, after a subdued first 45 minutes that saw Ansu Fati disallowed by VAR and Lewandowski shoot against the post.
After the restart, VAR came to Barcelona’s rescue at the other end, where Valencia had a goal disallowed before Lewandowski snuck in at the last second to head in Raphinha’s cross.
With three points, Barcelona surpasses Real Madrid at the top of the standings with Los Blancos playing tomorrow at home against Girona.
Barcelona’s next match is a Champions League dead rubber away at Viktoria Plzen in midweek, while Valencia plays domestically at Real Sociedad.
