UEFA Is Criticized By Jose Mourinho For Demoting Champions League Teams To The Europa League.

Jose Mourinho, the manager of AS Roma, blasted UEFA for dropping certain Champions League clubs into the Europa League.

When a Champions League side is ousted from the continent’s premier tournament, Mourinho suggested UEFA should not move them to the Europa League but rather allow them to return home.

The former Chelsea manager also said that clubs eliminated from the Champions League winning the Europa League this year would be pointless.

The Portuguese made this statement after AS Roma and Real Sociedad drew 0-0 in the second leg of the round of 16 Europa League match on Thursday.

Remember that this season, teams like Manchester United, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, and Sporting Lisbon were all demoted to Europe’s second-tier tournament from the Champions League.

Mourinho remarked in a Sky Sport Italy interview:

Teams that, in my opinion, shouldn’t be there are there. They should return home if they lose a competition!

Hence, if a team that was eliminated from the Champions League wins the Europa League [Man United, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting Lisbon], it will have no significance to me.

After the draw on Friday, Mourinho’s team will play Feyenoord in the Europa League quarterfinal matchup the following month.
