To loan Felix to Man United, Atletico wants £13 million.

Joao Felix’s loan request from Atletico Madrid is £13.25 million, which is more than double what Manchester United is ready to offer for the Portugal international.

Felix is said to demand an additional £5.3 million in pay over the course of the rest of the season, bringing the total price of the contract close to £20 million.

Having notified Atletico and Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes that the parameters would have to be far less expensive before they would contemplate returning to the bargaining table, United have outright rejected those conditions and are now looking at alternatives.

According to sources, there are currently no active conversations, and unless the Spanish club changes its position, this is unlikely to change.

The 23-year-old, who went to Spain from Benfica for £113 million in the summer of 2019, has also drawn attention from Arsenal and Chelsea, but they are unlikely to fulfill Atletico’s demands.

In the January transfer window, United are looking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, another well-known client from the Mendes group and Felix’s colleague from Portugal.

Before Cody Gakpo, a Dutch player for PSV Eindhoven, agreed to a £44 million transfer to Liverpool this month, manager Erik ten Hag pursued him.

After spending a club record £220 million on new players in the summer, Ten Hag is working with a smaller budget that has also been impacted by the uncertainty surrounding United’s ownership after the Glazer’s indication that he may be prepared to sell the team.
