Ral Jiménez Equals Carlos Vela’s European Record
|The Wolverhampton Wanderers striker tied Carlos Vela for the most goals scored by a Mexican in the highest division of European football.
After struggling with a run of injuries for club and country over the previous two years, Ral Jiménez is attempting to regain his best form. The Wolves club is open to bids for the former Club América striker during the January transfer window as he struggles to earn manager Julen Lopetegui’s trust.
Raul Jiménez wants to remain in Europe despite rumors that he may return to his childhood club América in Liga MX on loan until the summer. After tying the score on Wednesday to force penalties in the quarterfinal encounter against Nottingham Forest, the Mexican international is still getting used to the Carabao Cup.
Jiménez scored his third goal in three games, but Wolverhampton Wanderers were unable to go on from this round. With two saves, Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson was the hero as Steve Cooper’s Notts Forest upset the Wolves 4-3 on penalties to get to the semifinals.
A new accomplishment for Ral Jiménez
The 31-year-old equaled Carlos Vela on Wednesday night for the most goals scored by a Mexican in the top division of Europe, marking a significant accomplishment for him. In all competitions, both attackers have scored 89 goals, and Jiménez achieved it in eight years in Europe while playing for Atlético Madrid, Benfica, and Wolverhampton.
