On Leaving Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone Talks

Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atletico Madrid, has claimed that no one has ever urged him to quit the organization.

Simeone, 52, is said to be leaving Atletico Madrid after 11 years at the conclusion of the current campaign.

The Argentine has now clarified that no one at the club has urged him to leave the La Liga powerhouses, however.

Simeone addressed rumors that he will quit the team at the conclusion of the season at his pre-match news conference on Wednesday before Atletico Madrid’s Copa del Rey match against Levante:

“I have not personally been asked to leave,”

Atletico Madrid’s only realistic chance to win a title this year is the Copa del Rey, however, given they are 13 points behind La Liga champions Barcelona and have already been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League.

Simeone’s team is now fourth in the league after a poor season.

Simeone continued,

“The guys are eager to change the circumstance we have been in during the break and before the World Cup. It has consistently been a poor season. After the hiatus, I feel like there was progress, and I hope that trend will continue.
