Klopp: Salah’s form has dropped because Liverpool’s attack has changed.

Mohamed Salah’s recent struggles, in Jurgen Klopp’s opinion, have been exacerbated by the changes to Liverpool’s frontline.

The Egyptian international has seven Premier League goals at halfway through the season compared to 15 at this point last year. He has failed to score in five of his previous six games across all competitions.

Due to major injuries sustained by Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, who have both been out since October, Liverpool’s offensive threat was diminished.

Due to calf issues, Roberto Firmino hasn’t played since before the World Cup, while Darwin Nunez recently missed two games due to a hamstring ailment. Cody Gakpo, a January addition, filled in for them both through the center.

When asked whether Salah had been negatively impacted by the frequent changes, Klopp said, “Of course. The front three were well-drilled machines. Everything about what we were doing was apparent. It hasn’t been of any use. Everyone experiences it.

“Offensive play requires a lot of effort and knowledge. How to move: You develop a sense for your teammate’s location so you can pass the ball to them without having to look.

“That isn’t cool. We cannot just assume that we will perform at our peak, win 5-0, and move on to the next game. Nobody likes to hear that we must work hard, but we must anyway. After that, we’ll have more choices and be able to vary things up in two to three weeks.

Now that Cody has joined the team, we have a very valuable asset in a connector who can play both the wing and the center. We have a variety of tools to employ because when Darwin is playing there, he is clearly higher up and coming in from behind.

“We have never used a No. 9 before. Even when Sadio (Mane) was around, he was sometimes dropping (deeper), but it is not Darwin’s style of play. He is a big handful there and wants additional balls. We could construct something if they were all present, but we haven’t yet been able to achieve that.
