Klopp on Why Real Madrid Ousted Us From The Champions League

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, said that Real Madrid’s elimination of the Reds from the UEFA Champions League was due to his team’s lackluster performance against Carlo Ancelotti’s squad in Spain.

In the Santiago Bernabeu, Klopp saw Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.

Real Madrid moved to the Champions League quarterfinal with a 6-2 aggregate victory after winning 5-2 in the first leg at Anfield last month. Karim Benzema scored the game’s lone goal in the second half.

In the news conference he held after the game, Klopp said that Real Madrid had been in control of the contest for the whole ninety minutes because they were the superior side.

Added the German,

“We arrived here with the three-goal deficit in our bag. You need a particular performance, but we did not provide one tonight.

“That was a solid effort at times, but Real Madrid was the club who had the game under control the entire time. They had the better opportunities, which is why Ali [Alisson Becker] had to make two outstanding stops to keep us in the game.

The winning team advanced to the next round because, in the end, Madrid was the superior squad.
