Investigation Into Tax Fraud Involving A Former Barcelona Player
|Arda Turan, a former star for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, is the most recent player to run afoul of the Spanish tax authorities.
During his tenure in Madrid and Catalonia, the Turkish legend is accused of failing to pay €499k in 2015 and €328k in 2016. Vozpopuli (via Sport) claims that Arda owes money for salary and image rights.
Turan, however, asserts that he has paid enough tax for those years, allowing for the possibility of a settlement. But, given that he failed to appear at the most recent session, there is also a potential he ends up in court.
After Cristiano Ronaldo, Xavi Alonso, Lionel Messi, and Javier Mascherano, Turan is the most recent football player in Spain to get a warning from the tax office.
Turan, who is now 36, left Galatasaray in the summer and retired in September. After his final appearance for Barcelona in 2017, he was still bound by his contract until 2020.
