Bring Banks To Order, Governor Adeleke Tells CBN in Old Naira

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has requested the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to take action against commercial banks for consistently mistreating state people by failing to collect old naira notes after paying clients with them.

The governor lamented the suffering of locals in a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, citing the numerous complaints of bank customers who claimed the banks were refusing to accept deposits of old notes and the ensuing detrimental effects on the general populace.

Adeleke said that he has received several complaints from bank clients about the banks’ willful unwillingness to collect the old currencies from all across the State.

The governor added asked the state director of the CBN to instruct the banks to stop the harmful practice that has not only put the nation’s citizens through unimaginable misery but also destroyed a great number of small enterprises.

Banks must cease releasing old notes for withdrawal if they won’t accept them as deposits. The governor stressed that the suffering that was now being imposed upon his people must end.
