Pique Discloses His Reasons for Calling It a Day With Barcelona

Gerard Pique, a former captain of Barcelona, has given an explanation for why he gave from football at the age of 35.

It was appropriate, according to the Spaniard, to “provide room” to Barcelona.

On Saturday night at Camp Nou, Pique gave an emotional goodbye speech to the team’s supporters.

The center back had unexpectedly declared his retirement from football on Thursday.

In the Catalan giants’ 2-0 victory over Almeria on Saturday at Camp Nou, he made his final appearance for the team.

Pique said:

“Playing for Barca has been a romance filled with a lot of love and passion. I believe that it was the proper time to give one another some distance.

“I believe it was time to split ways, and I’m confident I will return here in the future.”

Pique assisted Barcelona in winning 15 trophies, including three Champions Leagues and eight La Liga championships.

Many people would have assumed that Spain’s World Cup team in November 2022 in Qatar would include the seasoned defender.
