Gerard Pique, a star for Barcelona, announces his retirement from football.

The encounter between Barcelona and Almeria at the Nou Camp on Saturday will be Gerard Pique’s last game as a professional football player, he has revealed.

The 35-year-old, a three-time Champions League champion and an eight-time La Liga champion with his hometown team Barcelona, shared the news in a video message on his social media accounts.

He stated, “Football has given me everything. Barcelona has provided for me in every way. Barcelona supporters, you have given me everything.

And now that [this] child’s aspirations have been realized, I want to let you know that I’ve decided it’s time to stop this adventure.

Pique, who has 102 matches for Spain and was a member of the 2010 World Cup winning squad, has only started five games this season for Barcelona.

The former Manchester United defender did, however, mention that Barcelona is where he wants to retire from playing.

He stated:

I’ve consistently said that there won’t be another team after Barcelona, and that is what will happen.

Pique gave a last clue about maybe joining the team again in the future but not as a player.

My last game at Camp Nou will be on Saturday, he said.

“I’ll start watching regularly. I’ll be there for the group. My children will inherit my love of Barcelona.

And you know I’ll be back sooner or later.
