Coach says Poland is prepared to fight against France on Miners’ Day.

Al Rayyan: Poland head coach Czeslaw Michniewicz dismissed complaints that his team was playing too defensively at the World Cup, claiming that their cautious approach had helped them advance to the round of 16, where they will attempt to defeat reigning champions France on Sunday — Miners’ Day in Poland.

After conceding just two goals in three games, Poland has advanced to the knockout stages for the first time in 36 years. Argentina scored twice after Michniewicz’s team blanked Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

“Those who didn’t play defensively during the World Cup are at home watching television. We will alter our plans now that we have completed the group phase “Prior to the matchup against France on Sunday, Michniewicz said.

“The stakes are high; you either win or you’re out. We worked tirelessly to fulfill our dream of progressing past the group stage.

“We will try to celebrate Dec. 4, which is a holiday in Poland for miners. We respect our adversaries’ class and are not afraid of France. But we don’t give a damn what people think of our team.”

Michniewicz had been compared to Jose Mourinho, the Portuguese coach well-known for his defense-first approach to games, because of Poland’s tactic.

He smiled and continued, “It’s not current anymore, this comparison is not valid anymore.” “Football is about success and winning trophies, particularly at the World Cup.
