Barcelona Will Disregard Frenkie De Jong’s Requests

Barcelona wants to mend fences with Frenkie de Jong after the most difficult time between the player and the club since the Dutchman arrived.

De Jong openly criticized Barcelona for the pressure placed on him in the media before to the World Cup after heavy rumors that the club wanted to move him throughout the summer.

Since then, Jordi Cruyff, Joan Laporta, and others have openly proclaimed their innocence. The demand for negotiations with de Jong to lower his pay, which they believe is excessive given the market and the team, has persisted, however.

Sport reports that Barcelona is abandoning such tactic. Given their limited resources and the likelihood that Sergio Busquets will leave the team this summer, they now understand how difficult it will be to find a successor on the market. As a consequence, Barcelona is now determined to keep de Jong at all costs and will resist any temptation to lower his pay in an effort to mend fences with the player.

They may have just realized de Jong would not budge on his position. In any case, it is arguable that they have already irreparably harmed their connection with de Jong. The cynic would assert that Barcelona is only improving their public image to promote themselves.
