Vehicles are set ablaze in Ojota as police and Yoruba Nation members scuffle.

A young guy was apparently slain yesterday in the same neighborhood, almost two years to the day after a saleswoman named Jumoke Oyeleke was fatally shot by a Nigerian Police Force officer in Ojota, Lagos, during a Yoruba Nation Rally.

Although the unnamed individual was allegedly slain by the police, the Lagos State Police Command has denied guilt but has pledged to look into the matter.

The Yoruba Nation organization intended to conduct a massive protest in Ojota to demand self-determination, but it became violent and resulted in the burning of cars, the injury of a police officer, and a murder.

According to rumors, unrest began when police arrived at the location and used tear gas to scatter the throng.

A young guy was shown in a video that went viral accusing two of the gang members of being killed and threatening to burn the Ojota police station on fire.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police (SP) Benjamin Hundeyin of the Lagos State Police said that no one was ever shot by the police, who instead rushed to the scene to disperse the crowd and maintain order.

“Miscreants posing as Yoruba Nation Agitators descended onto Ojota in their hundreds, disrupting social and business affairs.

In order to disperse the illegal assembly and avoid a collapse in law and order, a team of police officers from the Alausa Division and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) acted quickly. The criminals fired shots at the cops as they were being assaulted, destroying two cars in the process.

“One individual has been officially pronounced dead, and two police officers who were shot by the thugs are presently getting medical attention. Investigations have started after the arrest of four suspects.

“In the meanwhile, the region has returned to normal. Lagos residents should go on with their legitimate business as usual since precautions have been taken to stop the further collapse of law and order, and the situation is being closely watched.

It is crucial to declare unambiguously that the Lagos State Police Command will not tolerate any individual or group of individuals disrupting the peace that is now being enjoyed in the State.

“I have the record of one death, not the many that were reported during the incident.

Before the event, they failed to let us know that they would be in Ojota; it was an illegal assembly.
