Uba Gmd Advises Patience And Defends Currency Overhaul.

Oliver Alawuba, group managing director (GMD) and chief executive officer of the United Bank of Africa (UBA), has applauded the Federal Government for revamping the currency with the policy of withdrawal limitations via the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Alawuba, who was one of the four individuals awarded Honoris Causa at the Imo State University in Owerri over the weekend, asked depositors, unbanked individuals, and the general public to have patience while the procedures take place and expressed hope that things would soon return to normal.

I ask for patience since the redesign of the currency is for Nigerians’ benefit, he remarked. I think the exercise will help the economy recover.

It was determined that Alawuba and the other three candidates in the category excelled in their respective fields of endeavor.

Alawuba received a Doctor of Honoris Causa (Banking and Finance) on the occasion, which was also attended by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, a former governor of the state named Rochas Okorocha, the Minister of State for Education Goodluck Nana Opiah, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution Prof. U. U. Chukwumaeze, and some former vice chancellors, including Alawuba.

Virgy Etiaba, a former governor of Anambra State, Chief Chika Emenike, and Simbi Wabote are among the other 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students who received honorary doctorates. Along with other currently serving and previous members of the administration as well as elected officials, Okorocha’s wife Nkechi also received a doctorate in academia.

Alawuba responded to inquiries from reporters quickly after obtaining the honor by stating that it would motivate him to do more and highlighting how this is an opportunity to serve mankind with a passion.
